Low carbon feature wall at BE-ST

‘Zero Carbon Built Environment’

The showcase wall at the entrance to BE-ST’s Innovation Factory outside Glasgow was built as part of their large showcase for COP26. Built Environment - Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) is positioned as a unique launchpad for a zero carbon built environment, engaging with a wide range of clients, contractors, designers and supporters all working towards this goal. BE-ST is a major supporter of the K-BRIQ® having provided significant funding and support throughout the K-BRIQs® research and development.

The logo for the re-brand of BE-ST from Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, is boldly offset in our Gillespie Magenta Light against a backdrop of Gillespie Magenta K-BRIQs®.

With 1.5 tonnes of local construction and demolition waste stored within the wall, it is a talking point with visitors on BE-ST’s factory tours and events.

The wall has also saved over 300kg of carbon emissions by building the wall in K-BRIQs® rather than traditional clay bricks, the equivalent of travelling from Glasgow to Paris in a petrol car.

"BE-ST's mission is to accelerate the built environment’s transition to zero carbon emissions," explains Jennifer Smart, Head of Sustainable Materials at BE-ST.  "We are a facilator and exemplar, building teams that solve the built environment sector's most pressing challenges.  ‘Accelerate to Zero’ is our road map that we are building to ensure any problems posed by building or retrofitting to zero carbon standards have ready-made solutions in place - and the K-Briq is one of these ready-made solutions that we are proud to support."
