‘Carbon neutral status’
J Haig Hamilton & Sons run a 720 acre arable farm in East Lothian in Southern Scotland as well as a leading waste management facility. They used the Chapman Burnt Orange Light K-BRIQ® to provide a beneath damp proof and base course to one of their new large scale industrial sheds in 2020.
It has become the first Scottish waste management company to attain a carbon neutral status following a committed programme of reduction and offsetting initiatives, including use of the K-BRIQ®.
The K-BRIQ® external facing brick is built from foundation to the top of the lower ground course and supports a solid steel frame.
The 50m² K-BRIQ® wall houses 6.3 tonnes of locally recycled construction & demolition waste, and has saved the company 1.3 tonnes of carbon compared to if they were to have used traditional clay bricks.
‘Loved the sustainability credentials’
“JH Hamilton & Sons specified the burnt orange K-BRIQ’s® for the base course around our new industrial units at our farm due to their nice aesthetic that suited our units well. They have fared well ever since being installed in 2020. We also loved the sustainability credentials of the product and how they required nothing different to lay. A fantastic product, coming at the right time for sustainability targets in the UK.”
