The Construction Centre was opened in November 2024 by Daisy Cooper, MP. The campus’ design and build focus on creating a modern and sustainable learning environment that meets the needs of a diverse student population. The K-Briq is also under consideration for future builds on the exciting new complex.
The K-Briqs supplied to the first phase of this project recycled over 4 tonnes of construction and demolition waste materials.

‘Carbon neutral status’
Oaklands College in St Albans opened its ambitious 3,000m2 Construction Centre project at the end of 2024, and is one of the first projects in the UK to use the low carbon, recycled K-Briq in its build.
The Construction Centre will provide state-of-the-art teaching facilities for the construction skills curriculum areas, including bricklaying. It includes workshops for practical learning for the plumbing, electrical and renewables installation trades, a construction lab, a virtual reality learning suite and general teaching and IT classrooms.
The build has also used many cutting-edge sustainability practices, including showcasing the K-Briq in Gullane Cyan on two key feature panels.
“we are very keen to use the building as an exemplar project to inspire future generations”
Oliver Watson, DLA Architecture
