‘Providing locally manufactured K-Briqs and K-Slips into a Passivhaus new build, made from locally recycled construction waste materials ’

Paper Igloo design comfortable, beautiful and sustainable homes from their base in the heart of Scotland. Taking a holistic approach to sustainability, the practice design to certified Passivhaus standards and embed key principles in every project: low embodied carbon, low operational carbon, enhanced acoustic protection, enhanced daylighting, flexibility and adaptability and design for de-construction.
This project exemplifies how Kenoteq aspire to supply long term from their regional production ambitions - locally manufactured architectural surface materials made from locally sourced and locally recycled construction and demolition waste. Limited transportation of both the waste materials and the final products ensure very low transportation carbon contributes to low whole life carbon calculations. Recycling over 10 tonnes of waste materials also ensures these materials do not end up in landfill - and employing a circular economy design approach also ensures a further 10 tonnes of finite virgin resources are not excavated to create traditional brick products. Using the K-Briq over conventional bricks saved the project over 2 tonnes of CO2e.
The striking Medero Dark Grey K-Briq interior feature walls stretching from floor to cathedral ceiling in the double height kitchen and bedroom areas are recycling over 10 tonnes of construction and demolition waste materials, making them a true talking point for visitors.
Kenoteq’s new cut-face terrazzo K-Slips are also being used to create unique features around the doors.
